That is a cool idea, but unfortunately, I don’t know anyone, that would be willing to do this. One of my friends has a selfhosted server, but he doesn’t want to pay for stuff like that. He uses everything through a VPN, so he has no running costs.

I did just come up with a pretty good solution though. I looked into Netbird and they actually have tls-passthrough functionality, so I could just run my nginx-reverse proxy locally which handles the certs and encryption and I could be 100% shure, that the company can’t read my traffic.

Alright, I just don’t understand what you mean by “a challenge in court”. In this case, you couldn’t challenge them on these rules, a court could do nothing about them.

From what I understand from their blogpost, it was mostly about conserving their own resources, because a lot of the vibecoded projects they got were uploading insane amounts of binary releases and wasting resources on CI/CD while having no users or other collaborators.

They wanna reserve more server space for projects, that actually productively use it, like bigger FOSS projects with actual users and contributors.

That is perfectly understandable for me, even without taking my huge distaste for AI into consideration. Anyone that thinks, that this small, community funded project is obligated to host their huge slop repos semms pretty entitled to me.

What do you mean? They are perfectly in their right to enforce this rule, even if they couldn’t prove that their reasoning made sense. They are not obligated to host your slop

You could also consider donating it to the projects you are hosting. Because developing that software still takes a lot of labour and these devs really need it

Maybe you could implement the search suggestions URL into the OpenSearch (because at least when I added it via right click add search engine, it only added the search URL), but that could be an error on my part.

Also, I am just curious, where do you get the search suggestions from? Do you just query one of the engines?

I’ve installed this on my home server and I must say, I am quite impressed!

It just feels so much snappier than SearXNG, I think the loading “animation” helps with that a lot. I also love the whole plugin system, there is already a lot available, maybe in the future, if I have a good idea, I will make one myself.
I was a bit skeptical about the AI thing at first, but at least you are transparent about it and your stance seems to be reasonable.

If you want some suggestions on what to work on in the future, it would be cool, if there was a search suggestion api URL, I could add to Firefox to have search suggestions in my address bar. Also maybe bangs to only search with a certain engine, like in SearXNG.
