For non tech savvy people it would be better to explain how a Fediverse platform functionally compares with the platform they are familiar with, rather than focusing on how the Fediverse platform works because most of them would be least interested in that.
I don’t do gaming and don’t understand or use Linux. But I have found lots of cute cats, dogs, beautiful photography on Mastodon. Also had occasional conversations about books. I would suggest that you consider keywords of what kind of content you want to see and browse hashtags of those keywords and interact with people.
No megalodon and moshidon
That’s really interesting!
You mean “e” is forbidden in toots?
I simply signed up on the website itself. (Mastodon.social). Then downloaded moshidon and I was set. If signing up on the website doesn’t work, maybe try a different major instance?
Instead of upvotes can we have something like a link showing up below the post (in both places) pointing to where it has been cross-posted, so that may be can visit if interested and engage with comments. This can increase interaction in both places.
Let us know of any progress on this front.
There’s definitely way more content on Mastodon than just xitter cross-posts. Also, there is content variety which is kinda lacking here on lemmy. Maybe say after a year or so if lemmy continues to develop, we may see better quality and variety of content here.
Been hearing a lot about pixelfed. So is it comparable to say Instagram or is it a microblogging platform like Mastodon.
Following hashtags seems to give me all the content I want, more than from what people I follow post. Maybe experiment with different variations of hashtags.
Complete separation of text from hashtags, so that hashtags are not counted in the word limit. Allow posts with longer word limit with an automatic “read more” tag or automatic splitting of longer text into a thread. Also quote posts.
This is great. I was checking through the categories, and I had no idea there’s a science instance. I came to know about my present instance from reading posts here. Finding interest related instances has been so difficult.
OK this tells me that bluesky is definitely not for me. I am happy with Mastodon. So long as the people I follow (from technology, science, research, literature, owners of cats, dogs, etc etc) remain on Mastodon, I will remain happy.
I can do this using the moshidon app.
