I’m still seeing Twitter posts on Lemmy frequently. It doesn’t matter if they’re bots or paid, the site is still being used and posts are still being passed around.

Rebranded as “X” in July 2023 under Elon Musk’s leadership, the platform saw a 15% drop in monthly active users soon after. Despite this, with 611 million monthly active users…
“X” is doing just fine.
If Twitter hasn’t had a mass exodus I’m not holding it hope for any other social media. The fact of the matter is the majority of the public just don’t care.
Then I’d be more concerned about that and your posts rather than if you happened to up or down vote something.
If someone tries to harass me about how I vote I’ll just block them.
You are doing it privately. Nobody knows who amju_wolf is, or where they live.
How does one “behave as a shithead via voting”? If someone decided to waste their time following me around Lemmy and down voting my posts it’s not going to do very much.
Incorporating that in a way that doesn’t allow for vote manipulation by just lying to a server that different “anonymous” users have up or down voted a post sounds incredibly difficult, and not worth it for the narrow use case of “prevent my votes from being data mined even though all my comments can.”
datamining my voting patterns for building a deeper interest profile.
They can already datamine your posts.
The same argument could be made about your posts. Maybe a user tends to post things that aligns with a certain group, just as easy to track that (if not easier) for targeting.
Not to mention anyone with the tech to do this already can by creating their own instance so they can view votes.
For me the latter will produce a chilling effect on how I operate with the site
Why?
I still don’t support anything which lowers the friction of vote stalking
I don’t follow, what are people going to do from being able to see votes that they can’t do by seeing your posts?
Your votes are as public as your posts. I see you have no problem posting so I don’t understand what the issue is.
Hot fix: end downvotes. Just yank them out of the system. Actually my preferred solution.
God no. Websites with just upvotes have some of the worst threads because a small pocket of stubborn idiots keep upvoting each other.
Apple, Spotify or YouTube
Or. Instead of “only on Netflix” and “only on Amazon Prime” and “only in Disney+”.
It’s just a thing to say because theres more than one source, and there being more than one source is not radical.
The closest thing to podcasts is probably TV. You can’t say “available wherever you stream television” because everything is exclusive to a different service. You can’t even say “available wherever audiobooks are sold” for similar reasons. EPIC is trying to make the same thing true for video games as much as they can as well.
It is worth pointing out that entertainment does not have to be (and should not be) exclusive to a singular middleman.
Yes, if that were to happen it would be a big blow. It hasn’t happened despite all the things, so I’m not holding my breath.
