Correct.
The corporate media platforms have algorithmically-driven content that is unregulated.
The fediverse doesn’t, which means you get two distinctly separate experiences.
Artist, musical performer, and former derby skater from the Midwest.
I’m single, childless, and married to freedom and adventure.
ACAB, Anti-War, and I hate Democrats, Republicans, and billionaires.
And, to the one person who downvotes all of my posts and replies, thank you for being a fan.

I only ever check my corporate social media now because I get DM’s for various business-related things.
The Fediverse, for me, has been the best experience. Most people are willing to have good-faith conversations. Those who don’t are easily blocked, and if they break the rules, moderators are on hand to make sure they go kaput.
Also, for the low low price of donating $10 a month (along with other subscribers) I get zero ads and no algorithm fuckery messing up my experience.
Can’t say that about any of the corporate media services.
Be that as it may, I love seeing a reply to one of my posts from someone I’ve blocked.
Lets me know that whatever bullshit they wrote is going to go eternally unanswered, and I hope it frustrates them.
Awesome.
I have a monthly contribution set up. Subscribing is way better than dealing with ads.
This is the way.
Not interested. The folks on Blue sky can keep their corporate social media.
Hopefully they are active and interesting people.
Is it still the same SJW hellhole it was a decade ago?
It’s nice to see more reasonable people abandoning Twitter.
I quit in October 2022 after the incident where Elon Musk showed up at Twitter’s offices with a kitchen sink and just carried it around being a douchebag. That was pretty indicative of where the platform was headed.
That’s probably the global feed, which yes, moves super-fast. I found that annoying at first too.
There’s a checkbox to turn off auto-scroll in settings, and it’s got an appropriate name: Slow Mode.
Its’ pretty great.
As with the time I joined Mastodon, it takes a couple of weeks to find what you like and build up a good feed, but once you do that, it’s useful and fun. I wish it had more curation tools, but I enjoy it.
I thought that my first couple of days, but TBH, I actually really like that Fedi social media is completely self-directed. Not having the Jack Dorseys, Donald Trumps, and Zuckerbergs of the world vomiting content or stupid ads onto my feed is well worth the modicum of extra effort.
I found half of the people I’m following just by posting a picture of my dog and tagging it #CuteAnimals, and that got a nice response. I do follow a few hashtags and found follows there, but I will probably take them off once I’m up to 30-40 follows and I like my feed.
My feed on Pixelfed is way better the second week, now that I’ve followed a couple dozen folks and put some posts out there.
And pro tip: Post and tag a cute picture of your pet and people will see your account.
Further, Daniel needs to read up on Zuck’s history. He’s been a motherfucker since he was a kid.
shrugs
Use something else then. Cheers.
The difference is you’re not getting ads or AI. It’s basically google from 2010.
All good choices, but udm14.org filters out ads too.
Correct.
Use udm14.org instead.
Agreed. It’s silly.
I like Mastodon. It’s like social media from 2010, chronological, only seeing what you want, great curation tools, and no ads or stupid algorithm. Moderation is also way better on Mastodon, though it can vary by instance.
I haven’t used BlueSky, but I imagine it feels pretty familiar, which is what a lot of people want, and that’s cool too.
They can both be good things.
Agreed.
I like it here.
