How do you have the SAS drive connected to your Mint 22 box (what exact adapter/controller)? Is it going through a real SAS HBA (LSI/Broadcom-style, IT/HBA mode), or through a RAID controller / USB-SAS bridge / “virtual” adapter?

Reason I’m asking: there are basically two connection paths:

• True HBA/passthrough: Linux gets direct SCSI access (you’ll see a /dev/sgX for the disk) and you can usually low-level reformat it back to 512-byte logical blocks (e.g., from 520/528).
• RAID/USB/translation layer: the controller hides or emulates the SCSI commands, so tools like sg_format often can’t issue the low-level format needed to switch the sector size. That might be why the disk is visible in the disks app but not in gparted.

Given the screen shots I believe it’s the later. Can someone smarter than me confirm?

I’m confident this is recoverable. Can you throw the failing drive into a USB enclosure? It might be easier to reformat the drive in the OS you’re most familiar with.

I haven’t checked the ToS in a while but last I checked it was 50mb upload limit for the free tier and a loosely policed no video streaming. And they don’t shut you down if you send files larger than 50mb, the upload just fails. I served over 8 million requests through the free tier last month.

What are you hosting and who are your users? Do you receive any legitimate traffic from AWS or other cloud provider IP addresses? There will always be edge cases like people hosting VPN exit nodes on a VPS etc, but if its a tiny portion of your legitimate traffic I would consider blocking all incoming traffic from cloud providers and then whitelisting any that make sense like search engine crawlers if necessary.

OP can use a Cloudflare tunnel which would take care of caching and prevent any accidental DDoS attacks.

I’m surprised that Tailscale can’t get through, cleaver routing is one of Tailsacle’s features. Though I do sometimes have connection issues with Tailscale when running DNS-over-HTTPS on my laptop.

It’s not an ideal solution but you can save your Google takeouts to Dropbox. It might be worth signing up for Dropbox for one month and use Dropbox’s sync features. I haven’t used Dropbox in years but they used to have quite solid syncing.

That’s 128GB RAM, the GPU has 24GB VRAM. Ollama has gotten pretty smart with resource allocation. Smaller models can fit soley on my VRAM but I can still run larger models on RAM.

I’ve installed Ollama on my Gaming Rig (RTX4090 with 128GB ram), M3 MacBook Pro, and M2 MacBook Air. I’m running Open WebUI on my server which can connect to multiple Ollama instances. Open WebUI has it’s own Ollama compatible API which I use for projects. I’ll only boot up my gaming rig if I need to use larger models, otherwise the M3 MacBook Pro can handle most tasks.

I have a couple of nice domain hacks and I use them for email and random services I run so the root domain appeared to be abandoned. I received so many messages from people wanting to buy them I just started pointing them at other sites so they would stop hassling me. I’ve had one of these domains for nearly 20 years and it’s my main email address. I’m not selling because it would be a year long full time job just to update all my services 😅
