People above a certain age should begin to avoid social media and stick with more private forms of communication like email, phone calls, signal messages and f2f discussions. Once your ability to tell fact from fiction deteriorates enough, announcing your opinions publicly becomes increasingly problematic.

Interesting. That exact same logo was used by the app that changed its name to Impressia. So, maybe it started as one thing, but later evolved to what it is now. A confusing journey really.

What about the Marxist-Leninist, communist, socialist, anti-capitalist crowd? I don’t know if they hang around on other platforms, but they certainly are present here on Lemmy.

Also, what about sexual and gender minorities? I get the feeling that there are a lot of queer people on Mastodon. Maybe that could be another selection criteria.

Also, some people will intentionally add numbers at the end of the alias to make it look like all the good names were already taken. Sort of like a joke or a reference to all the bigger social media platforms.

I’ve seen something similar happen when a site doesn’t load all the way. Refreshing fixes that unless something has gone horribly wrong.

It’s a lot like email really. If the 14 MB of storage hotmail once offered wasn’t enough for you, switching to the 1 GB of Gmail may have seemed appealing. If Google seems a bit too creepy for you, consider switching to proton or something.

Nah, foget about Lemmy. The name isn’t edgy enough. Just think about Discord, Squabble, Insultr, TauntTornado, FuryFurnace or FistFight.

Totally remember the lack of apps. Initially, I just had to use Lemmy through a mobile browser. Lots of devs were working hard to publish their apps, and after a few months we had lots of options. That was just amazing how quickly it happened.

BTW shout out to Bean, my favorite Lemmy client. It’s not perfect, so in some cases I still use Voyager to fill in the gaps, so bonus points for Voyager too.

I don’t think I had any initial beliefs that I could have reinforced by paying attention to certain kinds of posts and people. It feels like I tend to notice the stuff I’m not into. That’s the bias I’m interested in.

However, after making that first observation, confirmation bias can certainly take it from there and inflate the number of LGBT+ people in my head.

Twitter was designed to be addictive, whereas Mastodon was specifically designed to not be addictive. That’s why scrolling Mastodon feels so boring after a while.

Did you notice that the Average Lemmy Comments by Day looks really weird? Some of the sudden jumps could be attributed to real life events, but I’m more inclined to think there’s something buggy going on with the way three numbers are logged. Besides, there’s also a sudden dip!
