This is called “virtue signalling”.
This is called “virtue signalling”.
I remember when I first tried to use Mastodon and struggled with how best to make it work, so I asked what was probably a basic question to the Enlightened™. Instead of being helped, I was met with “it’s easy, maybe you’re just dense?”.
Then I thought that maybe Mastodon doesn’t have the kind of people I’d want to interact with on it.
Brace yourselves, “fascists won’t be able to follow me” posts incoming.
Just started using Pachli, which is a fork of Tusky with extra features like auto refresh of timelines and translation of posts.
Well, that’s spam. So obviously it would make sense to block that.
This is why I don’t understand all the hysteria about this.
If I don’t want to see Threads or I don’t want Threads to see me, I can go to a Threads account and click “block threads.net”.
But obviously that’s too complicated and it’s easier to just whinge to your instance admin about how Threads federation will be the death of us all. 🙄
Recommendations from people, not algorithms
I mean, if an algorithm can recommend me books I might enjoy based on things I’ve previously read, that’s not a bad thing?
Algorithms aren’t always bad.
Ah, I see. I’ll have to ask my admin whether it’s going to be added or not.
The instance I’m on got updated to 4.2 yesterday, but the new search still isn’t working for me.
Usually, I’d have thought this was because it needed to take time to index all the posts, but people on other servers are saying that the search is working for them. 🤔
You can opt-out of being indexed on search engines.
You need to opt-in for your posts to show up in the new full-text search.
You love to see it.
I just moved servers because I found out that the admin of my previous server had an enormous list of servers blocked with these block lists.
They’re a stupid idea. Sure, block servers that are hosting illegal or extremist content, but do it one-by-one so you know exactly what it is you’re blocking. Otherwise, leave me to make the choice about whether I hide a server or not.
Trunks is another Mastodon app that has threading too.
Great idea!
The only sad thing at the moment is that neither of the Lemmy and Mastodon apps I use are supported yet. 🥲
I don’t have any backup accounts to make use of this, but this is a great tool!
Fedilab is working on adding the ability to add Lemmy instances to it: https://toot.fedilab.app/@apps/110673796368824384
But it’s not available yet, and no other app has it either.
Complaining about politics, essentially.
I use Tusky and I never see these trending posts. It’s great because I’m sick of the tedious political shite from all sides on Twitter, I don’t need it on Mastodon as well.
Nobody sees racism or gets more offended by it more than white people on Twitter.
