It turns out that without photos (in immich), my filesync requirements are much smaller and I could get away with a cheap cloud storage offering.

Still using sync thing for obsidian notes and pc <-> phone stuff.

I was running on unraid docker, so no VM and it was still awful ☹️

I tried the AIO docker build I never got the file sync working at an acceptable level. Would be using piss all resources and still only syncing a few files a second.

Does installing bare metal make it faster, or is that not what you meant?

The problem with this kind of stuff is that it HAS to be internet facing, and you want it to be stable so you don’t cause dead links.

You don’t want to be hosting software that’s not getting security updates, especially while linking to it randomly over the internet.

I want to be able to upload files and have them stored on the server and only downloaded when needed (or if I mark them as always downloaded)

I don’t need or want everything on my laptop or phone (requires lots of storage!), but want to be able to get them easily when I do.

It doesn’t support offline online only files though. I can’t dump a few hundred GB on there and then access it from my phone etc

How is the file sync integration? Even some of the commercial products have shocking implementations.

Does it support shadow copies of files?

If only half the estate is on WhatsApp, you will get even less on the rest.

Maybe make a website with basic info, what’s happening etc, but that’s probably it. ( Unless you have a very young road)

It’s a voice chat server. That’s all it does. You can’t post images, GIFs etc.

Fine for if you just need voice, but good luck getting people away from discord.
