Can confirm it’s a great stack! We run it at my work and its quite nice to work with. I’ve been thinking of replacing Prometheus in my homelab with Alloy

I use Prometheus with various exporters pushed to Grafana which I have displayed on a small screen running on a ROCK Pi in my office

I keep it all down in my unfinished basement away from everything 😅

But for real, I got a used fully enclosed server rack for pretty cheap ($300 CADish) from a company who was moving entirely to the cloud and that thing can keep a lot of noise contained. I have three servers and a chunky network switch so its all pretty loud but when I close the rack’s door it reduces the volume by at least 50%. If its open I’m easily able to hear it from my ground floor but not otherwise

You just need to setup a reverse proxy. My Jellyfin instance has been accessed from all over the world

It’s mostly to maintain the structure of a comment tree in my best guess. It’d be strange if a comment under your comment just bumped up the tree to being a reply to the person you were replying to.

Continuing to show your username on the deleted comment is a UX design choice that I understand and sympathise with questioning but it’s kind of irrelevant when you think about how ActivityPub and the Fediverse works.

Basically, even if Lemmy did hide your username, any ActivityPub server connected to any instance connected to your instance will have received that comment and you clicking “delete” is basically just asking everyone (possibly hundreds of servers) to please delete it. A server lagging behind on syncronisation, a server modified to discard delete requests (maybe for archival purposes) or even one that just pretends to delete comments for malicious purposes will still have that data

I guess a TL;DR would be that it’s a UX choice but kind of an ant hill compared to the mountain that is the Fediverse. It’s not a bad thing but it’s definitely a trade off you should keep in mind

+1 to Garage being great! I used it for a personal project and it worked really well. A lot of S3 data browsing clients also support it natively or just through API compatibility too

Saaame. I created an account on the new Piefed but I’ll only fully switch over once Voyager supports it. I’ll be sad to lose my two year user history on Lemmy.ca though :(. I wish account migrations that kept comment/post history and account age were supported

Anecdotal but I’ve run Jellyfin publicly without any issues for around 5 years. It even has its own domain name.

I moved all my domains over to FullHost.ca from NameCheap and they’ve been pretty good so far. As far as I can tell, they’re just a reseller but their support has been really good.

I have three Proxmox nodes named: acid1, freebones, and a partially decommissioned node aptly named pve

acid1 was named from a sticker I got in a big collection. I was extra sold on the name when I did some research into acid1 tests.

freebones is from an inside joke from a GPT3.5 bot I terribly finetuned using my friend groups entire chat history. At one point the bot randomly said “algebra: you get free bones” and I kind of just ran with that

I haven’t heard about any of that drama since the early days when things were still getting sorted out
