Either that or folks will happily shovel the slop into their eyeballs and lose all critical thinking ability. It’s a toss-up.

That very much depends on whether they’re a Parisian or not. Though even if they’re Parisian it’s still 50/50.

How about a second vote system for agree/disagree, because I agree with you in principle and try to use it this way, but in practice the votes are definitely used for that. Now that I write it out though I realize people will just double smash both buttons when they disagree anyway.

I’m fine with the username, but that RGB profile pic is a bit much.

4·3 years agoMaybe you can subscribe to “news” and it gives you a submenu where you can tick which instances you want to include in your own selection of “news” community.
It still leaves the question of how it deals with crossposts of the same article to multiple instances.

27·3 years agoI’m happy to help provide answers on my fields of interests but they are pretty much dead on Lemmy for now, it’s a chicken and egg thing.
It doesn’t help that because we don’t really have good algorithms, my feed is dominated by generalist topics, memes, news and tech stuff. So even if I subscribe to smaller communities, if I don’t intentionally go visit them they’re never in my feed.
We need to better surface posts from smaller communities by having a weighted algorithm so that your feed is a mix of big and small communities.

Just the objectively most beautiful piece of software ever made.
Yeah of course! That’s why it’s so nice. But I think it works as standalone as well.
What a lovely instance name. Also received on sopuli.xyz btw.

Beyond his interest in FOSS and privacy, he’s also just mellowed out a ton, the dude is in his mid (late?) thirties and you can tell.
