Whichever way instances decide to go there’s a few things people should remember:

    • We’re lucky to have this option even if it’s divisive at times.
    • It’s not always about what we know will happen, sometimes it’s concern over possibilities we couldn’t even imagine at the time.
    • Growth is great but there’s infrastructure, moderators and policies that can be overwhelmed.
    • Defederation can be reversed at any time if things change.

  • I’m just an outsider, never posted in here before, but I saw the old post and thought nothing of it other than “wild idea”. Now I see this community being dragged as unhelpful or mean to newbies when that was NOT at all what I saw in that thread. Sure, a few usual WTF or “you might wanna change your input” responses but that’s just how the Internet responds to unusual things.

Seriously, I had to go back to see if I missed actual meanness but I had to hunt for the thread, now deleted perhaps from embarrassment? Still, overall it looks like great responses until OP starts getting chippy, fighting users and just overall snarky. But hey, it happens.

But now, a full day later, the same OP makes a meme that continues to paint the base in a negative light AND is totally clueless as to why, with multiple disclaimers saying “no, I’m cool, this is fun!”. This is the epitome of JUST STOP. You goofed, you did not read the room correct at all and now it’s time to disappear, not continue to explain yourself as some misunderstood person who means well. Please, for the sake of the Internet, we get it.
