Reddit got more important once it Google ranked higher and the astroturfs found out, that people trust a review on Reddit inside a thread more, than multi million dollar marketing scam action, trying to game Google algorithm or other sites. The same will sooner or later happen to the fediverse if it ever grows. It’s unavoidable, sadly.

Yes, nationalizing YouTube would work, or more so an Internal team, founded by all nations. Btw Germany has some sort of “Youtube”, paid by people and not government founded. It’s very limited as you can’t upload and only watch. The content is also only what is decided by the owners. Theoretically we’d just need to expand that, to allow uploads and get money by more than just the German citizens. I always had that dream, as it would provide a fully ads free platform. Not sure why that isn’t already a thing, as video platforms are an integral part of our society by now.

Same. Since the app stopped working I sometimes accidentally get on Reddit, but not on my phone.

Also Lemmy banned a lot of bot accounts, so the user number is to take with a huge grain of salt. It could in fact be up from before the bot fiasco.
