Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-Hosted AI is pretty darn coolEnglish
5·1 year agoyou hear that said about AI because companies are desperately throwing more and more resources at it to get 0.3% better results, and people are collectively running an insane amount of prompts all the time.
but on a personal level it’s not really any different from any other computations, people render videos all the time and no one complains about the resource usage from that, because companies aren’t trying to sell bloated video rendering services to gardening businesses.

17·2 years agoi’m sorry but are you commenting this for any reason other than to make yourself feel better about owning a car? i see people doing this all the time and i don’t get what other reason there would be to bring it up as the immediate response to comments about going car-free
yes, obviously you can’t live without a car if you need the car to live! but millions and millions of people would actively enjoy life more without a car.

i mean wisdom is something you gain from experience so presumably later generations are always going to be wiser provided they study the past, that’s kinda how we got to where we are
this is my lane, it was made for me!

101·2 years ago“despised by those who aren’t” is kinda really fucking funny to me because i cannot think of any country but the USA where roundabouts aren’t bog standard and being angry at one is like being angry at a T-intersection

2·2 years agoCould allow for like one hour of keep-alive pings before it’s deleted and the client is told to notify the user of this
Also: rate limits that gradually increase are good.

5336·2 years agoHonestly feels like there are just a ton of anti-lgbt people jumping at the chance to hate on ada, this is quite a non-issue.
If people want to see and interact with porn then they can simply make an account on a porn server, that’s a good idea even regardless of all this.
I don’t understand the insistence that porn instances have to be federated with everyone else, it’s equally as strange as pornhub having a “share to facebook” button.

2·2 years agoYou can actually have accounts be on the base domain and only put the interface on a subdomain. It’s really neat.
have you looked at simplex? at a glance it seems robust and it actually works without much fiddling which is nice.
