I’m on the main kbin instance, and I’ve requested ownership of quite a lot of magazines.
I just learned to hold my hands more ergonomically on a non-ergonomic keyboard. I hold my hands at an angle rather than perpendicular to the keys.
I’m a game developer, and you can find my engine project at @PixelPerfectEngine
I also sometimes draw or do other similar stuff, and beg some of the smaller creators I’m following to get into the Fediverse, especially as Twitter is supressing their reach.
The ActivityPub interface allows it to my knowledge. It’s just not widely used.
Well, that’s a very different and way more concerning thing…
It’s Pawoo, Pixiv’s (formerly) own instance, which is infamous for this kind of content, and those are still “just drawings” (unless some artists are using illegal real-life references).
It’s already being done as much as possible. Oli London did accuse a trans women for being a pedophile for liking “lolita anime”, which turned out to be just Gundam Seed or something along that line.
Other issues:
I personally don’t like such material (although I don’t strongly age-check every character I see online), but I’m also against any legislation targeting such things, especially within the current anti-LGBT climate. This would easily lead to LGBT relationships also being labeled as “virtual CSEM”, while obviously giving the straight stuff the green light.
So their moderation too is a clown show…
Depends on.
Meta Threads have other issues on top of potential EEE measures and concerns about data harvesting. Meta’s moderation is a shit show on Facebook, Instagram, and so far on Threads, so federating with them will result on letting a large number of trolls into the Fediverse, that are encouraged to do their trolling for higher place in the algorithm. In addition to that, Meta can dictate policies to you, like no NSFW content, and for corporations that can mean almost anything.
If Tumblr doesn’t go too extreme in any of these directions, I can accept federation with them. My main gripe with interacting with corporations is that they likely want to dictate the rules of the Fediverse.
I think donations by themselves are fine. They don’t need to have fancy stuff attached to them.
Basically, what they’re planning to do is to try and deanonimize user handles. I use the handle ZILtoid1991
on most networks, and is the same for most other people. In general, there’s nothing wrong with it. It makes people to be easier to be found. However, it can be easily exploited by data harvesters, like Meta, and I have to rely on their services still (especially Facebook) due to how prevalent its use is in my home country, Hungary.
I also think they might use the Fediverse as a free moderation team, if they plan to moderate it at all. Facebook report system is completely broken, as instantly flags hate speech as safe, and will likely delete anything critical of it. However, large corporations like Meta (and X) can win more by playing some lip-service to the far-right: work-moralist attitude, tax breaks for the wealthy, protection from the working class, and so on. I have some theory that some tech corporations secretly boosted the far-right until they got too big there, then tried to write it off as an “oopsie”. Twitter seems to be way more open about it.
I currently use Tidal. Lacks some of the DnB albums I liked on Spotify, but at least has proper audio quality.
As the fediverse becomes more and more of a feasible alternative to corporate social media, it will be inevitable that trolls and spammers will use our platform for malicious things. All we can do is to get better at moderation, maybe somehow bust these farms.
