3·9 months agoit’s a feature, not a bug
It’s beginner level, the hard part is the reverse proxy, once you have a grasp on that just having it on a dedicated box in a segmented portion on your firewall designated as the DMZ is easy. Id even go so far as to say its the bare minimum if you’re even considering exposing to the internet.
It doesn’t even need to be all that powerful since its just relaying packets as a middleman
Also run the reverse proxy on a dedicated box for it in the DMZ

5·9 months agoPiefed has gone from being rarely if ever even mentioned at all to, in just the last few days, being mentioned hundreds if not thousands of times a day in threads on virtually any topic, makes me highly suspicious.
You make interesting points, but for this specific thing, it almost certainly has to do with the .ee shutdown which was announced just a few days ago, apparently PieFed has fantastic comm transfer tooling so that’s why it’s probably been exploding in discussions since .ee has a number of large comms that are trying to figure out their next steps

12·9 months agobut just handing it over isn’t really appropriate.
Well I would hope, if they were open to it, they would have internal discussions with the main mods and maybe some sort of vote amongst their user base and/or giving those who’d rather not time to delete their data before anything changes hands

445·9 months agoIs transferring it to someone else in the cards? I have an LLC intended for my own future instance plans, but I’d be more than happy to take over .ee under it to prevent the loss of another good Lemmy-verse instance

51·10 months agoOpenAI’s malfeasance with regard to energy usage, data theft,
I mean that’s why I call them silly folks, that’s all still attributable to that corporate greed we all hate, but I’ve also seen them shit on research work and papers just because “AI” Soo yea lol

Those are silly folks lmao
most people just don’t want AI jammed willy-nilly into places where it doesn’t belong to do things poorly that it’s not equipped to do.
Exactly, fuck corporate greed!

217·10 months agoWe get it, you hate Lemmy as a platform.
I have been so very clear on this being about .ml and the admins in charge of it that it’s obvious you’re just posting a straw man.
You try so hard to make it less appealing by splitting discussions on posts by reposting stuff needlessly.
Lol, no: https://lemmy.world/comment/16087942
Then you spearhead some movement to try to get people to not donate to Lemmy development at all, making it harder for these people who are trying to make Lemmy their life’s work to be able to even survive.
Because they use the .ml instance and it’s influence as being associated as the “Official Dev Instance” to push their Tankie “ideology”, to include spreading dangerous misinformation and propaganda
They could solve it almost overnight by turning over .ml to a new as fair and unbiased as possible admin team. As was also brought up in those donations threads. In fact to paraphrase another user: “Devs should do dev work and not mod work and admins/mods should do mod work and not dev work”.

3611·10 months agoAs was brought up in those threads, but it’s simply not good enough, it’s just paying for .ml with extra steps (e.g. through their pay/salary rather than directly funding hosting costs)

5317·10 months agoOh yea I started donating all right…to PieFed (I don’t even have a PF account), .world and .cafe.
I won’t be giving a penny to them until I see some major changes in regards to .ml as so many people called for on every other version of the donation thread that wasn’t .ml

43·10 months agoThe developers are openly communist
They are openly authoritarian “communists”, you don’t need to simp for China, Russia or NK to be a communist. But they do and they leverage the .ml Instance to do so. This is the point of contention for most (including myself) donating to them, and it was brought up in those threads numerous times. If they put in place a new admin team that was as unbiased and fair as possible, they would massively increase in donations. They won’t though because they know exactly what they’re doing with .ml to further their personal political ideology.
To paraphrase one user on one of those threads “Devs should do dev work and not mod work, admins/mods should do admin/mod work and not dev work”.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tankie
Tankie is a pejorative label generally applied to authoritarian communists, especially those who support or defend acts of repression by such regimes, their allies, or deny the occurrence of the events thereof.
