This place is mighty insufferable and I say that as one insufferable twat.

I’m on @discuss.tchncs. It’s a German instance but I’m not German and it’s not been an issue.

Thanks dude.
I am incredibly fortunate that my boss is a Saint and we literally put ourselves first and the work second. It’s a small company and we are not expected to think about work outside of work and they’ve shown time and time again with their actions that they are good people.
I just don’t have that kind of drive for coding now outside of work as work satiates that desire, which means out of work I can focus on mental health which for me comes from being outside or doing something.
I will say the past isn’t amazing as I’m quite new but has two raises and a reduction in hours in less than 2 years.

You’re right I could be helping out I mom the open source side, but I really struggle to even turn on my Pc when not working (mental health) so don’t feel I am the best person to contribute.
This is why my focus has been on getting friends and family to stop spending money on streaming services as every little helps.
You’re correct in that the only thing that matters to me is that people I care about save money. That’s it. I’m in awe of people doing more than me, but we can only do what we feel we are able. Together it all makes a difference.

My aim is to get my friends and family to stop paying for streaming services and if I have to pay for Plex to achieve this then that’s a win.
Jellyfin is nowhere near as feature complete as Plex and not by a long shot. My users don’t like the UI of Jellyfin and setting up for remote access is no trivial feat. With this in mind and my goals Plex is better suited.
So far have 8 users all saving £10-40 a month not going to streaming services.

Not in the slightest.
On iOS for instance there is a weird thing where it has a set of Ui controls and then if you double tap the screen it turns to the iPhone default Ui controls.

You don’t need to post your IP. Any server admin would tell you that if you have a server exposed to the internet then you’re going to get people / bots knocking and your doors (ports) to see what is open. They could then use something like meta spoilt to find vulnerabilities and gain access to your server.

So you’re saying there are some vulnerabilities which are not overblown and therefore should be a concern?

This place sucks at times as it becomes clear it’s just an echo chamber that we used to call the Donald for.
My users don’t like the UI of Jellyfin as it isn’t as polished as Plex. I do this for my users and although it costs me money, it does save them a whole lot more money and means they’re taken out of some capitalist systems which should be the goal no?
I also have the cost of a VPN too.
Edit: The comment I replied to was on -6 upvotes at the time of posting.

This is why I’m on a German one as a Brit. /s

This is how I ended up on a German server. I don’t speak German but really isn’t an issue. Just pick one.

Gatekeeping at its finest.
I for one would welcome anybody here who wants to come. Rather them than more people with your mindset.

Yeah OP said they had a late shower that night which get my mind out of the gutter.

Thanks for the answer.
I find it fascinating to graph things like this and the trends you can notice. Which further highlights how big corporations are able to make insane predications because of the sheer number of data points they have.

What caused the massive spike in humidity in the bedroom shortly before midnight?
My mind went to a dirty place is all I’m saying.

I just subbed to all three of those.
I find half the battle here is finding new places to sub to. I’ll browse all but always forget to sub to new ones I see.
I think for sports, it’s difficult as it seems most of us early adopters here are, well let’s say nerdier than the average, and as a rule tend to follow sport less.
Even me, I wouldn’t go out of my way to watch sport, aside from the olympics. But as an introvert that had a shitty home life I learnt quickly how to be a fake extrovert and thus had a lot of friends and so got surrounded by sport and stuff.

Why?
I kinda like how I often quickly run out of new interesting posts to comment on, but there is enough that I can have engaging conversations.
The more people that come the more it gets watered down. Not that I am gatekeeping, people can do as they like. Just I am happy right now.
Edit: Curious about the downvotes. Considering I explicitly said I’m not trying to gate keep and people can do as they please.
Yeah I treat the downvote as a way of saying shit content or trolling or whatever. People on here seem to treat it like a disagreement button.
If you’re not engaging to try and bring people to your point of view then what are you here for cause I’m not here for a circle jerk, I can wank myself off just fine. This place seems like a club no dissimilar to r/conservative but for “our side” and fuck that I’ll hold my people to the same standards as people I don’t agree with. Thats integrity.
