Mind the shavings
Well, reddit has nothing at this point, so it’s better than the competition.
I think the way to beat amazon is to specialize in one tiny area. Carve them up into such small slices that they cant fight back.
So like, instead of trying to do just their books business, do just horror books. Horror that mixes with all genres, every possible crossover, but always horror books.
Having a genuine specialty is what can take amazon down, bit by bit. Something genuinely cool, something genuinely fun. Another big-ass store is nothing special.
This is what we call “dipshit energy”.
The fediverse is confusing and that’s bad. It should be less confusing, and there should be less people making comments like that one. Quit it.
We’ll get there sooner or later. Hopefully sooner.
So get them on there.
“Hey dummies, this here is the place that isn’t trying to fuck us, let’s move it over.”
For me the way bigger issue is clunkiness. The fediverse needs a massive push for UI, usability, intuitiveness. Not having that will turn people away, but part of what will get it to happen is more people showing up and saying “stop making this otherwise objective improvement so janky that I second guess coming here in the first place.” Maybe a few will be inspired to help, if they have the skills.
To everybody working on the fediverse in any capacity: thank you. You are building a digital Noah’s Ark for the future.
Stuff like this is a major, major component of dealing with nazis.
And even after they’re dealt with, it’s a better way of doing things, anyway. If it’s a company, you’re not on their social media platform, as much as you can possibly manage.
Which is a lot.
Occasional comments here and there are probably better.
Everything helps.
No corporations in social media. No venture capital in social media.
I bet the fediverse wouldn’t censor a post about reddit because the fediverse isn’t a bitch.
Anybody who gives a rat’s ass about grandma wants to see her hanging out in places that aren’t actively hostile to her, and will at least consider switching.
If they insist on keeping her in places that want to see her come to a bad end just to make a buck, then we can safely stop calling or thinking of those people as friends.
I tried really hard to understand this. It isn’t working.
I put in my share of the work. I think it just does not make sense.
It’s a non-shitty instagram.
I’ll show you how that back end works!
(I have no idea and hope you get the info you want)
Oh no.
Please, for the love of god, think more tactically. This is a brilliant move on Daniel’s part, and a fantastic example for the fediverse more broadly to follow.
The Fediverse needs UI work. The new world needs a new internet.
I’m thankful we have this glorified hobbyist project of a micro internet, because it’s awesome. It’s time for real layout work to make things more intuitive, instead of this “just solder it” open-source-in-the-bad-way energy that sometimes gets half-assedly splattered around.
For everybody who has and is working on the Fediverse, thank you.
This is what we call a home run.
You should look up a picture of that dweeb sometime, or listen to any of the bitchly things he says. It’ll cure you of that notion in about a third of a second.
Did I miss something? How do you install your own fire exits on somebody else’s thing?
I tried to understand what this meant but had a stroke instead.
What are you supposed to put in the “server url” field in Pixelix? I put the instance I have an account on, because I don’t have any other information that would make sense to put there, but nothing happens when I tap the arrow.
Also, what the fuck, fediverse. It’s exactly this kind of bullshit that’s why nobody joins you. Fix it for Christ’s sake. Something this unintuitive doesn’t even belong in a beta build. If I was a paid instagram plant making this app to frustrate people into going back to instagram, this is the splash screen I’d use. Stop making it impossible to recommend you in good faith to people I like.
