This makes facebook officially the enemy of the Fediverse and the open internet.

Defederate from them completely everywhere they show up. They can’t be trusted.

This is a very ten years ago argument, with facebook being you on the internet.

At any rate, facebook specifically, along with google, taught us that you should never be yourself on the internet, or at least only be some piece of you. Anything else is amateur shit.

What does look interesting is FUTO ID, a way to allegedly verify your identity securely. Might be a nice keypass for other fully or quasi anonymous things online. We’ll need to imagine something good going forward, not copy something bad.

Posting lying terrorist dens like breitbart or fox as news is ban-worthy on its own.

First one’s hard to set up, but I’m sure anybody self-hosting literally anything could do it in two seconds.

But the fediverse solves that with federation, right? Connectivity and choosing where your connections are is the whole point.

I for one am a fan of everybody doing UI Fediverse improvements. It is very literally paving the future of the internet, because the future of the internet is not corporate bullshit. The Fediverse needs to be as slick as possible, and more people working on that is sorely, sorely needed!

The internet has been mostly enshittified. The corporations are guaranteed to continue sucking in predictable ways. It’ll never get better or good enough.

The fediverse is something new. It is, at the very least, immune to being reddited and twittered. If the internet has a future, it’s on the fediverse, or on something like it that doesn’t exist yet. Going back to shitty corporate stuff just delays the future.

Your real issue is that spez, musk, etc all suck. That’s what you hate. This is the place where we are free of them, and it can only get better.

Somebody definitely needs to make a frontend that makes it smooth.

The Fediverse could get shitty in new ways too, but it can’t get Elon’d. Bluesky eventually will. The future is on the Fediverse. All we’re doing is delaying that future by swapping one corporation for another.

Though maybe that future needs to be delayed, because the Fediverse needs to lose its “yeah our app can do that thing you want, just edit a few variables in the source code”-style github energy.

Mastodon is ultimately usable, because I figured it out, but it should have been easier, and needs to get easier. Maybe it has the rise and fall of bluesky to figure that out.

Mastodon needs to get shiny and pretty and intuitive. Bluesky is gonna suck eventually because it’s corporate, the Fediverse will only get better.

But it needs to lose the fucking github energy.

Could be unrelated, but there was some fiasco a bit ago where some vegans on Lemmy were calling for withholding necessary nutrition to pets, and they got a ton of shit for it. There’s been a kind of “fuck that place” vibe ever since.

Hopefully people can eat a little less meat and it loses its subsidies. That would be great.

This feels like something the Fediverse is ultimately going to build for itself. I know jack squat about the details, but it’s gonna have to be a thing eventually, I think.

Yeah I mean it’s a better system. People are going to start noticing when they start thinking about that.

It’s a temporary situation. This is early adopter alpha stage shit.

All the others will get bought out and enshittified. The future is not there.

The Fediverse has the potential to be the future. It’s gated behind open sourceheads not being all…open-sourcey about. Making it clunky to use and badly designed and then pulling the establishment economist “you poor schlub you’re just too dumb to get it” card, thereby shooting their own efforts in the foot.

If they can make it open source AND easy to use/intuitive/well designed, then we have a solid future. If not, the future still won’t be those other places.

Obsidian is pretty neat. Can use it with Syncthing, although I guess you need Syncthing-Fork on Android now.

Everybody’s heads are up their asses about this. It’s a great idea for a fediverse thing.

The real issue is nobody can use it because the damn confirmation emails don’t get sent.

A non-evil, non-corporate tiktok has some huge potential.

I don’t know anything about ml specifically, and I refuse to learn because I don’t give a shit. Lemmy has pockets of crazy like any place. Do your thing, get banned if you get banned, end up where you end up.
