Unironically, this makes me pine for the old days where usenet discussions were lively.

Agree on all points.
DevOps guy here mostly working at scale in AWS. Learning docker should be priority 1 alongside learning Linux basics. Ansible should be second IF the plan is launching docker containers on a VM as opposed to a server less option (example: AWS Fargate)
Yes. Still does. Though blocking Google groups cuts down on most of it
How did we move from usenet to forums?
It’s a result of lidarr just doing its own thing and me dropping new artists onto it every time I hear something I like, multiplied by a few years
Gotcha ok so that may be the difference. Right now I’m at…
4,843 artists 18,708 albums 235,303 songs 2254.59 GB 16,936 hours
And so media services that catalog and server that all seem to puke big time. Except for subsonic for some reason.
Good explanation, thanks. I figured it would have been the interface between in the onion and outside of it. That’s too bad. It’s been forever since I used tor but… would someone be able to set up an exit node specifically as a federation point with the outside world? Sort of working as a reverse proxy for a site or sites on the inside?
I was considering airsonic. How large is your music collection? That’s what seems to kill every other self hosted service i tried
Quick question and this may have been answered or obvious…
Is it not possible to federate with onion sites via tor or i2p sites?
One thing I’ve not been able to find, unfortunately, is a good replacement for subsonic for my 1.5TB mp3 and FLAC collection.
Everything I’ve tried to host dockerized has just crawled.
But other than that, hosting mostly for nyswlf…
The typical arrs, subsonic, spotweb, pinhole, duckdns, caliber, calibre web, qbittorrent via a dockerized vpn client
All containerized
Same here. I had no idea what picking an insurance meant in terms of the amount of people, communities, level of engagement, etc.
I could have picked one of the more toxic communities that have been defederated and my experience of lemmy would have been much worse
Yes. For example, you’d have a collection of servers that federated to create EFnet. DaLnet, etc. Joining any of those servers would get you onto that federated network. You could be banned from one server but you could always choose another to still get into the same network. And yes, netsplits happened. A lot.
That’s kind of hilarious :D
