I haven’t really seen any toxicity on there yet, and I’d wager both are less toxic than here regardless.

Yes honestly, we can manage what instances are pooled for on boarding.
Did the person who named the station know, or did they not research the name they ended up choosing? Its been declassified, it’s on Wikipedia. It strikes me as anywhere from unlikely to unresponsible that the guy didn’t research what he intended to use for a name.
I dont think I could dislike the name any more than I do.
Radio Free Asia is a CIA front for info dissemination so anyone who’s aware of that would rightfully be skeptical of ‘Radio Free ______’

Its funny because there’s a user assuming the astro turf is going the other direction and they’re getting mostly up voted. Too many people are thinking with their feelings instead of their brain.
Im fully against public down votes becaue I already see people calling out other users by their name in threads they’re not even part of. Theres no world where that behavior gets better when you give them more tools to witch hunt. Lemmy is as much an insular echo chamber as any social media and there are plenty of users dedicated to keeping it that way.
Ahh good call, I hated their official app.
Thats the neat part, you don’t. Social medias value isn’t determined by it’s tech. Its value is determined by who and what you can interact with. For example, people wont leave Facebook because everyone they know is on facebook because people won’t leave Facebook. Twitter is literally run by a nazi at this point and still it’s the same story where Mastodon and Bluesky aren’t even close. Same thing for reddit and lemmy. Lemmy simply doesn’t have the content reddit does, look no further than sports subreddits where any given game has a live game thread with a hundred or more unique commentors.
If you want mode people to come here you’re going to need to do two things. One you need to post content people want to see, and two you need to get very very lucky because as it stands if you don’t care enough about decentralization to lose out of a lot of content, theres literally no reason to be here. Its a long slow road and you’re still going to need reddit to do something stupid before we see another growth spike.
Literally what Ill do if this happens. One account that gets no notifications posts no content and votes, then another account where I comment.
Witch hunting mostly. Big ‘we caught the Boston Bomber reddit’ moment.
Guarentee you will start witch hunts by making the votes more accessible. But if you want every user to be able to do that then go ahead. My ability to keep myself occupied here is already not that large, maybe some witch hunts are what we need to drive engagement up /s
Yeah as long as theres an (practically) unfalsifiable way to forward the message that sounds very useful, which sounds like there is based on the response to my first comment.
Sounds like you know more about encryption than I do, I would hope they can do that but I still think a full off switch for users would be wise though.
Make it so users can opt out and not be sent messages at all. I have a feeling spam thats harder to moderate is coming.
Its okay guys, we hear you, we see you, were gonna ban tik tok!
Would this just be federated VR Chat or amnI forgetting something the mii versr thing had?
