Proof the system works right here.
Here on break
Proof the system works right here.
I can understand this perspective: wanting to spread the gospel of federation, etc.
But I’m starting to come around to the realization that the growth mindset is rotten. It’s what leads to these big centralized/unified platforms that concede on their core in order to reach a wider audience.
I can’t blame corpos for conceding away all identity, because engagement is how they make money, but what’s our excuse?
These aren’t refugees. They’re free to make a lemmy or masto or whatever account any time they want. We don’t have a problem with most of the people. It’s the platform, and all the fucking out and proud racists who are on it.
My grandma who owned a diner used to say the same thing, but about cops
Yeah…
Not aware of any of these, which is nice, but iddqd
caught my eye since that’s a Doom reference! Overall I always thought the Doom community was pretty positive (at least going by Doomworld forums, and various Doom streamers, as I remember them). I thought surely it must be some misunderstanding! Oh maybe they didn’t reply quickly enough to take down some drive-by hate speech, but that was it.
Anyway, holy shit, do not go to that lemmy instance. It’s rotten to the core. I’m going to go take a shower and play through Episode 1 to cleanse myself now.
But… why?
Just kidding, I get it. It’s definitely more approachable, and can be more intuitive, for sure. I just loved the whole terminal aesthetic from the first time I saw it, so that’s the hammer I hit every nail with.
I think that’s one of the main differences between users, though we get distracted talking about “productivity” or “control” or what-have-you, when it’s mostly just a matter of taste, deep down.
I’ve been Gentoo curious for a while, but you just put me over the edge. That sounds so trivial, but also cool as fuck
I got my first real start on linux on Mint, too! Really fond memories of using it with the Cinnamon DE.
What should they be using, !/usr/bin/env windows
?
At least there’s a point to talking (and complaining) about Linux, because we can actually contribute to its development.
Depends on who makes them I’m sure, but here’s an example of one coming in at 36g (sorry this website is so awful on mobile).
I get you’re trying to be inclusive and that’s great, but I think you take it a step too far (not inclusiveness, but your examples).
That’s said, it’s obviously fine to dislike coffee on its own, because that’s just how your taste is wired. No excuses or analogies required.
Right?! I try not to get in my high horse about it, because I know taste varies naturally, but taking a sip of coffee vs coffee with milk (let alone anything else). It’s like totally different beverages.
I mean coffee with milk is delicious, and for my part I do like to chuck a little cinnamon bark in the french press from time to time though, so I really don’t have a leg to stand on lol
Yeah I always I thought I was taking the high road when I used to get a bran muffin with my coffee, but it turns out I only thought I was abstaining
It still could
It is as good as it sounds. You just have to put a bit of effort in yourself to follow your interests before it gets really interesting.
Do you follow many people? I used to have that issue when I first signed up and was just looking at my entire fedirated feed. Since paring it down to local or follows only, it’s a lot nicer while retaining some of that cozy vibe that I like.
I’ve been having to watch my social media usage again. Which is bittersweet.
Can’t wait until they get so big I have to escape to tiny invite-only networks to recapture the “early days” feeling.
What’s wrong with Discourse? I ran a server during college for a couple of buddies and it was totally owned and operated by us, no corpos or anything. It’s just like phpbb or any other forum software AFAIK.
