if you know/use docker, the solution that has been the most straightforward for me is SWAG. the setup process is fairly easy when combined with registering your domain with Porkbun, as they allow free API access needed for obtaining top-level (example.com) as well as wildcard (*.example.com) SSL certificates.

along with that, exposing a new service is fairly easy with the plethora of already included nginx configs for services like Nextcloud, Syncthing, etc.

I haven’t met a single person that didn’t like Photon. Photon is the only reason I started browsing on desktop regularly. It’s lean, clean, and packed with gorgeous transitions; I’ve rarely ever found a project that gets form and function right.

The internet is a shitty place. I’m not surprised that on Lemmy we have shit like

• “client with no JS when?”
• “I don’t want normies anyway”
• “I’m too old to appreciate a modern-looking UI”
• “eww I don’t like this thing that carries subjective opinions, let’s never let anyone use this.”

The troll energy is strong, but it doesn’t change that this is a great project. Alternative UI’s are what make Lemmy unique, and you’re doing your part. That’s appreciated.

I tried both MQTT and just the plain HTTP variant, and I couldn’t get either to work. I’ve fully settled on the latter you mentioned, Traccar. it’s pretty much what I’ve wanted: self-hosted, easy to set up, beautiful web interface. Thanks for the suggestions!

1. Android. Me, my family. Our past phones were, our current phones are, and future phones will be Android phones.
2. I’m looking for whatever it may be to be OSS and self-hostable (if the community name didn’t give that implication away)

OwnTracks setup was a bit confusing to me and I never got it working. traccar looks pretty nice though, I’ll check it out!

usually in your router settings you can change local DNS settings. you can set your domains and subdomains to point to your server’s local IP.

although definitely not as configurable, I like the “set it and forget it” idea of DockoVPN

Nearly all of them. Nextcloud, Jellyfin, Vaultwarden, Spacebar, and 2fAuth, all set behind an NGINX Reverse Proxy, SWAG. SWAG made it very easy to set up https and now I can throw anything behind a subfolder or subdomain.
