Had to reenable the script to test. a and shift a do the same. a only works on posts that do not have a fedi link. If the post has a fedi link if you press a once it saves it, press a a second time it opens the fedi link.
I don’t know if I’m doing something wrong. But I’m pressing A to upvote and it randomly saves or opens the fediverse link. Using Chrome installed with tampermonkey.

If you search for it in a site hosting checker (e.g. https://sitechecker.pro/hosting-checker/) it says it is hosted in New York. It’s one of the reasons I picked the instance; I get low latency from it.
From my experience this is a very Indian thing.
