I feel like 75% of Mastodon are people talking about Linux. If you don’t care about Linux you feel alienated. I enjoy Mastodon and Lemmy, but the lack of more diverse subjects gets to me if I browse for too long.

Update: I took your advice and purchased a laptop for Linux, and now I care about it! Problem solved.

      If by here you mean lemmy.ml, the first lemmy server, you are certainty correct. Lemmy was originally authored by Marxists-Leninists to counter right-wing reddit. Or even more extreme lemmygrad.ml which I believe was the second Lemmy server, established by Stalinist kicked off of lemmy.ml for being too authoritarian.

          No, I think it’s a play on Leningrad, the former name of St.Petersburg, Russia in the soviet union.

            That’s… probably actually way more likely. Definitely way more meaningful and thus more likely for them to choose it as their brand.
