That’s why they’re so pervasive, they work on the majority of people (that’s not us).
Mastodon. Easily better than Twitter in every way, even when it wasn’t full of garbage. Can’t say the same for Lemmy, it’s not bad, and in some ways better but in some ways worse.
This exactly. I was saying that as a user, not a creator. I make money away from social media so I don’t care to bring that to my personal space.
My experience has been better. User engagement is much higher per follower and the discussions don’t devolve. They’re much more useful and/or interesting. KPIs don’t measure everything.
I’ve had people argue about a specific field I’ve been in for 20+ years and be dead wrong. So yes, often, as I said.
I think it’s grown a massive amount in 6 months. Back then I would say that was true. But now? Most posts have plenty of comments. Each month the number of average posts grow. It’s gotten to the point that 50% of the time there are so many comments I don’t read them all. We’re getting there.
They do seem to be confidently incorrect often.
The reason companies want to control the podcast networks is because of targeted ads. They want to inject the ad at the time of downloading to personalize the ad to the person it thinks is listening. That’s the best kind of advertising in their eyes. They can’t do that process without owning the network or at least having some stake in it.
The aggregators don’t sync with each other. The podcast creators upload the new show to each aggregator (or use an app that uploads to multiple).
It’ll definitely shoot up. I’m a world user and vote the majority of the posts I come across. I don’t do a lot of post submission, but do comment as much as I can contribute. I’m sure I’m not alone.
Same. I get a LOT of news because of what’s going on in the world and some tech stuff. Almost none of it is Linux (and I like it).
I do like that Mastodon reminds you to add Alt text before posting an image. People think alt text is just for the blind or near blind but sometimes I have a hard time figuring out why a picture was posted and the alt text clears that up. All that to say, it’s reminders help create the habit of adding text descriptors, which helps everyone.
This is my #1 request as well. Not easy to implement I’m sure but would be a huge QoL upgrade.
Hadn’t heard of Lemma but now I’ll definitely TestFlight it when the public beta is out. Looks like a great competitor. Thanks for the plug.
I’m using Mammoth to interact with Mastodon and other than the likes, reposting difference that’s made to diminish the echo chamber, it works very much like Twitter. Searching is great and the app works really well and looks great. Oh and the content is of much higher quality on the regular.
Check out the app Opener.
