i experienced similar difficulties. what worked was to reshare my own old posts using the “double arrow”-icon, i think the servers see them as new content and sync it again (you can remove your repost afterwards, once it’s synced it stays visible.

setting the license type is only implemented on new posts, there isn’t any way to set them on existing posts, it’s probably on the roadmap with a low priority: https://github.com/pixelfed/pixelfed/issues/4525

When you start following and interacting with people on other instances, the federation kicks in and their content is slowly retrieved, but it can take a while depending on the load

the head dev Dan Sup mentioned the number of active users jumping from 6k to 30k. we’ll see how it holds, but there is strength in numbers, people only stay if other people see what they post there. i have good hopes and really want to ditch instagram

Of course, convincing people to get off Discord when almost everyone already have an account, a desktop app and a phone app ready to go sounds like a hurdle, but with time and enough enshittification™ anything is possible!

The strength of Discord is its numerous partnerships with YouTube, Twitch, Patreon etc, making it trivial to gather paying supporters around a streamer or a video creator, attributing roles and perks automatically. I manage the patron community of a Minecraft gamer on YouTube and automatically sync the access to a community Minecraft server for people with a certain pledge on third part platforms, this would never work in the open source world, unfortunately

It’s unfortunately barely usable, the responsiveness and features of discord are unmatched, in my opinion
